School-Wide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS)

Our mission is to “empower students every day to reach individual success.” We believe that working with our students to create a positive school climate is key to achieving this mission. Therefore, we utilize a system of positive behavior interventions and supports through the School Wide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS) program.

What is SWPBS? Put simply, it is a proactive approach to school-wide discipline. This initiative is meant to reinforce the positive behaviors of students doing what is expected of them as well as supporting students who need extra assistance to reach the school wide expectation to Be Ready, Be Responsible, and Be Respectful. This program allows us to keep the amount of office referrals down, which has increased the amount of instructional time our students receive.

How does it work? We consistently define, teach, reinforce, and monitor behaviors! We strive to provide students with a ratio of 4 positive reinforcements to 1 negative reinforcement. We use verbal praise as well as a tangible acknowledgement - the RAM Star. RAM Stars are given to a student or students for immediate reinforcement of desired behaviors. It should be paired with specific verbal feedback (e.g. “Thank you for being respectful by reading silently while other students finished their tests.”).

Please ask your child about the school-wide rules and if he or she has earned a RAM Star or RAMS Card today!
